Parliament has closed the nominations process for the candidates for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) seat.
By closure of the second day, a total of 28 candidates representing all parties represented in the House and the independents had shown interest in the position.
The nomination process started on Monday, September 19 and 15 candidates were nominated.
To crown the nomination process on September 20, Cissy Bayiga, a candidate and her entourage arrived 20 minutes to closing time, dressed in bridal gowns.
She had come to submit her documents to contest for the EALA seat as an independent candidate. Unfortunately, she did not pay the required nomination fees of sh3m.

Uganda currently has nine representatives.
The term for the current members ends in December this year.
EALA is the legislative organ of the East African Community and consists of members elected from outside the national parliaments of the partner States. The regional parliament was established under Article 9 of the EAC.
