Singer Phina Mugerwa alias Masanyalaze has vowed to drag Uganda Musician Association (UMA) Electoral Commission chairperson, Jeff Geoffrey Ekongot to court over defamation.
The development comes after Ekongot dragged Phina Masanyalaze to police for allegedly stealing UMA documents.
“As someone who is in charge of the office, I had to take on the responsibility to make a statement at police that there are documents that were stolen from my office. I even gave them the suspect’s name,” he explained.
In Masanyalaze’s retort, she says that since Ekongot chose to escalate matters at Police, she has decided to sue him for defamation
Masanyalaze added that she has all authority to keep the documents in her possession as UMA secretary until they vote for her successor.

“By virtue of my office, I am the custodian of my documents. I have all documents and I’m in charge of them until I hand them over to the next UMA Secretary,” she said.
“That is defamation, you can’t accuse me for stealing documents, yet when those people (UMA Committee) came to office, they took away the keys from us,” she said.
With evidence attached, Phina added that even the day they alleged that she stole documents, she had sent Jeff a message asking him what time they will open the office.
