The Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) is preparing to have elections this month, April, but these will be held online.
In an interview, Cinderella Sanyu (Cindy), the president, revealed that the association could not organise physical polls because it lacks funds.
“It takes too much money to organise physical elections,” Cindy said.
She said the association has received criticism from several singers and the public on the move, noting that they are considering soliciting money from well-wishers to put up physical elections.
“Yes! I understand that many people think online voting is not the best option, but it’s all we have at the moment. But if we get funds from well-wishers and other organs, we shall consider making them physical,” she said.
Cindy was elected the president of UMA in March 2021 after Ykee Benda resigned. Benda had succeeded Sophie Gombya who had also resigned to pursue her political ambitions.
