A student of Uganda Christian University (UCU), together with his father, perished on Friday morning, July 29, in a road accident on their way to attend his graduation ceremony at the main campus in Mukono.
The vice-chancellor, Assoc. Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi, identified the student as Alex Gidudu Khauka, who was going to graduate with a diploma in information technology.
Khauka and his father, who is yet to be identified, are reported to have been involved in an accident in Mbale.
Another graduate, Barbara Mukuya, who was also in the same car, is admitted in hospital.
UCU is today graduating 2,184 students who have completed their courses in various disciplines. This is part one of the 23 graduation ceremony.
According to Mushengyezi, out of that number, 1,218 are female.
He says the total number of graduands who got first-class degrees is 55, whereas Leslie Mugagga Lubowa of bachelor of science in economics and statistics is the outstanding best student with a CGPA of 4.91.
The graduation held under the theme: Ebenezer, Thus Far The Lord Has Helped Us is presided over by the chancellor and Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Stephen Kazimba Mugalu.
The former chairperson university council, Bp. Dr. Sheldon Mwesigwa, is the chief guest.
