Uganda’s Oscars pre-selected movie Tembele has received ten nominations from Africa’s biggest movie award festival, the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) 2022.

The movie was nominated in the following categories; Best Film In An African Language, Best Achievement In Costume Design, Best Achievement In Sound Track, Best Achievement In Sound, Best Achievement In Cinematography, Achievement In Screenplay, Best Actor In A Leading Role, Best Actress In A Leading Role, Best Director and Best Film.

Drowning in joy, Morris Mugisha, the director of the movie, told The Kampala Sun that it was an honour to have received 10 nominations and he is hopeful that he will bring at least five awards home.

“It came with a lot of shock and surprise that I have been nominated 10 times in the Africa Movie Academy Awards. I must say it’s a great feeling. It’s a sign that when you put in enough, you actually get recognised. I am hoping to scoop at least four or five awards,” he said.

Mugisha’s Tembele received 11 nominations and won three at the Uganda Film Festival 2022.

In AMAAs 2021, the director’s movie Stain received seven nominations and bagged one award for Best Actress by Joan Agaba.

These nominations further translate to its ability to represent Uganda at the Oscars Awards 2023.

Another Ugandan movie that was nominated is No Way Out in the Category of Best Animation.
