A student, who claims to have graduated from Kyambogo University 11 years ago, is demanding over sh2b from the university over purported delayed issuance of his academic transcript.

Ernest Kigozi wants the money in lost income ever since he graduated in 2011 and atonement for damages suffered.

In a notice of intention to sue through his lawyers of M/s Nalukoola and Kakeeto Advocates and Solicitors dated March 22, 2022, he contends that he enrolled in the academic year 2006/2007 for a programme of study leading to the award of bachelor of development studies under admission number 06/U/2165/BDE/PE, which he completed 11 years ago.

Kigozi, however, says ever since he graduated, he has never got his transcript from the university without any justification known under the law despite several demands.

He has given the university 14 days to issue him with a transcript and any other relevant documents, including but not limited to the certificate of completion, lest he institutes legal proceedings against it at its peril and colossal costs.

Kigozi says he has lost several job opportunities because of delayed issuance of his transcript by the university.

University speaks out

When contacted, Kyambogo University senior public relations officer Reuben Twinomujuni said he was not aware of Kigozi’s case.

“I have not heard about it, but what I know is that transcripts have been provided and if he has not got his, I really don’t know the circumstances surrounding his issues. I wish I could talk to him and establish what exactly is the problem,” he said.

Twinomujuni explained that the issuance of transcripts takes about a month after someone graduates.

“Every day, students come and pick their transcripts and this takes about 30 minutes. If he completed his course, you may find that the documents are available, but he has never bothered to pick them,” he added.
