Moses Attan Okia, the FDC candidate in Soroti East parliamentary by-election has been rushed to hospital with barely 24 hours to polling.

Attan faces stiff competition from ruling party candidate Herbert Edmund Ariko as both have pulled mammoth crowds during their one-month campaign for the Parliamentary seat.

On Wednesday, Attan, using is official handles claimed he had been poisoned the previous day prompting him to leave the rally before it ended.

He wrote: “ I was poisoned yesterday. You may have realised I left the rally before it ended. I was given the local anti-poison and my night was tough – vomiting and diarrhoea.

By 3:30am, I was too weak and had to be moved to a clinic where iwas managed and after one and a half hour I was moved out of Soroti to a private facility for further management to avoid our enemies to access me.

I give glory to God, that I am alive and getting stronger. Thank you so much, most especially those on the ground doing everything possible to protect our victory that shall be declared tomorrow (Thursday)  after 4pm,”

Top political bigwigs in the country both in opposition and ruling party have pitched camp in Soroti canvassing support for their candidates.

President Yoweri Museveni a few days ago held three rallies in the constituency urging electorate to vote for Ariko if they want service delivery.

Museveni’s counterparts in opposition, Kizza Besigye and Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine also combed the area in a bid to reclaim the opposition’s supremacy.

Attan who won the election last year was ejected by High Court in Soroti in May this year on grounds that Electoral Commission didn’t conduct free and fair elections.

The polling is slated for tomorrow July 28 and the winner will be declared after vote tallying.
