Serere County Member of Parliament Bishop Patrick Okabe (National Resistance Movement party) has passed on in a road crash at Naboa in Budaka district on the Mbale-Iganga highway, Parliament communications director Chris Obore has said.

Okabe garnered 17,826 votes as an independent candidate (NRM-leaning) beating his closest rival, Philip Oucor (NRM), who got 12,631 votes.

Obore said Okabe died on the spot after the accident.

Obore says Okabe died on the spot, while his wife, whose name New Vision has not yet established, died moments later while in hospital in Mbale city today, December 19, 2022.

According to information drawn from the author section of Passion for God book written by Okabe, he founded Impact ministries in Mbale, and through generous donations from churches in America, over 700 HIV and AIDS, war-ravaged, orphans and needy children are being given food, medical treatment, clothing, education and hope in the gospel.

Okabe established a radio ministry reaching hundreds of listeners with the gospel.

Driver in critical condition

“The driver is also in critical condition, but the wife has just passed on,” Obore said.
