The Kampala Metropolitan North and Wakiso are investigating a case involving two women, aged 19 and 23, who were reportedly raped by two private security guards while they went to gather firewood.
The incident occurred on April 27, 2023, at around 7:00pm.
The women went to a nearby bush to gather firewood, where the private security personnel found them and threatened to arrest them on the grounds that they had crossed into one Robert Tebagwa’s forest in Wakiso district, which they guard, according to the police spokesperson, Fred Enanga.
“They threatened to kill them and immediately after, forced them to undress, if they wanted to be forgiven,” he noted.
Enanga was addressing journalists at the weekly joint security briefing at the police headquarters in Naguru, Nakawa division, Kampala on May 2, 2023.
He said the two suspects sexually assaulted the two victims separately, but the men were promptly detained by the Namusera Police Post after the victims later reported the incident there.
Enanga stressed that the two private security guards identified as Cornelius Khaukha and Julius Okello, both attached to Marginal Security Company Limited, are in police custody pending investigations.
“We strongly condemn such acts of abuse of position. The security guards had a duty to guard and protect the victims, as per their training. We continue to maintain our zero tolerance for all acts of sexual violence against vulnerable female victims,” he added.
