Listeners and fans of Western Uganda’s leading radio station, Radio West, will once again bask in the ecstasy of the biggest annual carnival in the region, Ekinihiiro.

The station launched this year’s edition of Ekinihiiro at a press conference at the Vision Group head offices in Kampala on Tuesday.

Dubbed “Rujaburantongo”, this edition is slated for July 30, 2022 at Kakyeka Stadium in Mbarara city. The festival, which usually attracts thousands of partygoers, is in celebration of 23 years of Radio West.

It comes after a two-year hiatus due to government’s suspension of physical events to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Dickson Nandinda, the station manager of Radio West, said preparations are done to bring out the usual excitement of the event, which is normally known as “the party of the year in the west.”

Revelers will pay sh10,000 for entrance. Gates will open as early as 7am, Mwota said, to have almost everybody to participate. Several artistes will entertain the partygoers.

“It will go on till late. Those who have attended the previous editions know what it is like. This will be massive as usual,” he said.

Mwota said the Vision Group with its partners, MTN, Pepsi and Simba Automotives Ltd, will also have various activities before and during the event. There will activations in markets around Mbarara city.

The early birds, first 25,000 people at the event will pay only 8,000, courtesy of MTN Momo pay.
