Premier Nabbanja’s “brown envelopes” light up UMU graduation ceremony

The 27th Graduation Ceremony of Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi (UMU) on Friday, May 6, 2022, was laden with interesting spectacles courtesy of the Rt. Hon Prime Minister Robina Nabbanja.

Nabbanja, who was the Chief Guest at the function, the first one of its kind since the lifting of the Covid-19 lock-down, .Nabbanja stole the show right from the start of the function.

She jigged rhythmically to the marching music of the students’ brass ensemble from Caltec Academy, Makerere, during the academic procession.

Nabbanja later caused even greater excitement when she opted to tip all the declared best performing graduands with a brown envelope.

She was so generous that she even reached out to the university’s sign-language interpreter and handed her an envelope.

The students’ cultural ensembles that entertained the guests benefitted from Nabbanja’s  generosity even more because,  further to tipping them, he even joined them in executing the gigs.

During the function, a total of 1,543 students graduated with Doctoral, Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates in various academic fields. Still, during the function, the association of the alumni of UMU rewarded Nabbanja with a meritorious award, in recognition of her pollical achievements and service to the country and humanity
