The Police on Thursday, May 19, 2022, said they had arrested three suspects over allegations of theft of vehicle number plates.
In a statement, Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said this followed the arrest of Herbert Zziwa on Wednesday at about 2:00am after he was caught red-handed stealing number plates from a motor vehicle UBJ 313J Toyota Hiace.
“The suspect was interrogated. He later revealed his accomplices identified as Musisi Bosco, 26 years old and Gizamba Muhamad who is 24 years old, both residents of Busiika trading centre. On Thursday, the two suspects were arrested from Busiika and a search was conducted in their respective homes where several items of evidence were recovered,” Owoyesigyire said.
He noted that the items recovered included sim cards, mobile phones and boxes with telephone contacts for their alleged victims.
“The duo also led Police to various places within Busukuma sub-county and Gayaza where various stolen number plates were recovered. They are currently detained at Kasangati Police station. The case file will be submitted to the Resident State Attorney tomorrow for advice,” Owoyesigyire said.
The suspects after plucking out the number plates would place their numbers on the car and ask you to call them.
They would then ask you for money to direct you where they had placed the number plate.
He called upon members of the public whose number plates had been stolen to contact Kasangati Police for further action.
