The Police in Pakwach district recovered the body of a British tourist, who is also of Ugandan origin, Robert Kaweesi, from the River Nile this morning (August 19).
Kaweesi drowned on August 17 at about 6:00pm, while saving his son, who had been overpowered by the river’s waves and was nearly drowning at Murchison Falls National Park.
According to Josephine Angucia, the West Nile region police spokesperson, the body was found at Wangkawa, Pakwach town council in Pakwach.
The body has been taken to Pakwach Health Center IV for a postmortem examination.
Controversy over identity
However, there was controversy surrounding the identity of the deceased, who had previously been known as Robert Kews yet his passport indicated that he was Robert Kaweesi, whilst his Ugandan documents portrayed him as Lawrence Kakooza.
Angucia has advised the public, including tourists, to be cautious while conducting leisure activities or other economic activities on large water bodies.
