The Police have launched investigations into the robbery of passengers, that occurred on the Mubende highway, Friday morning, May 20.
The robbers intercepted a Link bus registration number UBG 423 J at Mpamujugu swamp and made the passengers disembark from the bus.
“They put all passengers on gunpoint, robbed them of all their money and valuables, then let them embark and go,” Racheal Kawala, the police spokesperson for Wamala Region, said.
Mpamujugu is about 10 miles from Mityana to the Mubende Highway, bordering Mityana and Kassanda districts.
Kawala said the robbers were 10, armed with two guns and logs.
The Link bus was carrying 65 passengers from Bundibugyo to Kampala.
Most of the passengers travelling in these buses and taxis in early morning are traders, going to purchase commodities from Kampala, and so travel with a lot of money.
The Police did not reveal the total amount of money robbed, but confirmed it was a lot.
Kawala said they had deployed massively to hunt for the robbers.
No passengers sustained injuries during the incident.
