As you read this, the song released 10 months ago, that never got a quarter of the airplay it has received the last one week has now topped Apple’s list of 100 songs in Uganda. As of Sunday, July 1, 2021, Twende Tupaate was the most played song in Uganda on Apple Music. Bounce by Ruger and Understand by Nigeria’s Omah Lay where its closest contenders at number two and three respectively. A video of Mbale’s MC Africa, vibing to the song playing off a small dry cell radio was all it took to elevate him, the song and the Pia Pounds to public attention. The whole weekend saw MC Africa, among other activities host a show on a local television station, meet Eddy Kenzo, get several job suggestions from social media users and stimulate the kind of sensation only Fresh Kid managed to foster in the recent past. It is also important to note that when he met Pia Pounds over the weekend, his wish was a smartphone. Hours later, a city phone shop, Sagebuyer blessed him with a new iPhone X.
