Olympics medalists receive cars, to be paid monthly

Uganda’s Olympics medalists, Joshua Cheptegei, Peruth Chemutai and Jacob Kiplimo where on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 hosted at the Kololo Independence Grounds where President Yoweri Museveni handed them three Mitsubishi Pajero Sport cars for their exceptional performance at the just concluded 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Japan. 
The trio returned to Uganda on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 with a gold and silver medal for Cheptegei in the 5000m and 10,000m races respectively, a gold for Chemutai in the 3000m steeplechase, and bronze for Kiplimo in the 10,000m race. According to the President, in 2013 he ordered that every athlete who scoops a medal in international competitions should be paid monthly on a rate card of sh5m for gold, sh3m for silver and sh1m for bronze monthly. He emphasised that he learnt some of the athletes who qualify have been receiving the money quarterly and said they will be compensated accordingly. He also promised to build the athletes families houses. 

The Inspector General of Police also promised to promote the medalists for their exceptional performance.
