The Winners of the New Vision Film Awards were awarded on June 24, in an event that was held at Vision group Head Quarters in The Industrial area.
The event started with a cocktail, where filmmakers were served different sorts of drinks, and soft music.
Talking to filmmakers, Mr. Gervase Ndyanabo, the Deputy Managing Director of Vision Group urged them to be responsible and ethical while making content.
“My message to you is to be responsible. Movies are entertaining but let’s not get lost along the way. They should be used to deliver good lessons to people,” he said
He also added that Ugandan filmmakers should consider African Values and humanity while shooting these movies because it’s what benefits the industry
“Let’s entertain with a purpose to promote our values. People want to get lessons that take us back to African values.
Delivering their speeches, winners applauded Vision Group for such a big platform and asked it to keep Promoting Ugandan content.
Richard Mulindwa, the one whose Movies, What If, Mistakes Gals Do and Contention, asked Vision Group to put up a show to promote Ugandan films.
“Thank you vision Group for this platform and for considering us. I request that since Vision Group is the biggest media house in Uganda, it should put up a show where our Ugandan films are shown,” he said.
Prynce Joel Atiku Okuyo, the winner of the category, Best Actor in TV Series for his role in the movie “What If” asked Vision Group to put up a TV station in West Nile.
The New Vision Film Awards were put up by Vision Group as an initiative to promote the Ugandan film industry which has not been given enough media attention. The media giant awarded the winners, the first runner’s up and second runner’s up in sixteen categories such as Best Feature Film, Best Actor in Feature Film, Best Actor in TV Series, Best Director Feature Film, Best Actress Feature Film, among others.
