Do you ever find a strange coincidence associated with a song? I do, with this one – I hear it often when I am in a supermarket. Either those supermarkets like playing an FM station that loves this song, or it is on the playlist of the Supermarket Association of Uganda (SMAU).

For the moment, let us clarify – the association doesn’t exist. But Kanyimbe does, and it is one Juliana song that has aged really well.

Kanyimbe was intricately produced – the focus to detail is not only on the instrumentation, which is beautifully non-intrusive, but on the harmonies, which are perfected wonderfully

It fits one of those neutral niches that artistes tend to like – heck, R. Kelly did songs like this, and still went and did what he did, and we can still listen to his inspirational music without feeling guilty. This may or may not be the reason that artistes do inspirational songs, but damn, I am always delighted when they do. It’s like a combination of music and the human soul.

Kanyimbe was intricately produced – the focus to detail is not only on the instrumentation, which is beautifully non-intrusive, but on the harmonies, which are perfected wonderfully. Then, of course, there’s Juliana’s singing – she related to this song on several levels. It is no wonder that the song has aged so well – the emotion that carries it is sincere.

Great track – makes a trip down memory lane worthwhile.
