The Police on Monday, June 13, tracked down and arrested two suspects as they were merrymaking in a guesthouse after reportedly robbing the finance manager of Victoria Nile Plastics in Njeru on Kayunga Road of sh283m.

Kira Region Police spokesperson James Mubi said the suspects were trailed and arrested in Rainbow Guesthouse at Wakitaka, Jinja City, where security found them drinking alcohol with part of the proceeds from the heist.

“The Police in Jinja have two suspects in their custody on allegations of armed robbery. The two, Godfrey Isanga, a resident of Bukatuube in Mayuge district and Patrick Kiiza, a resident of Iganga on Kaliro Road, allegedly followed the finance manager of Victoria Nile Plastics Ltd Company in Njeru on Kayunga Road, Bhaven Prajapati and two others right from Bank of Baroda in Jinja city and up to Njeru. Upon reaching one of the washing bays, along Kayunga Road, they blocked them using their car, a Toyota Wish UBA 032N and robbed them of their money totalling to sh283m,” Mubi said.

Mubi said Prajapati reported the matter to Jinja Central Police Station, where they immediately started tracking the culprits using the global positioning system  that had been placed in the bag which contained the money.

After arresting the suspects, security also recovered a gun reportedly belonging to the Uganda People’s Defence Forces with 26 bullets.

Mubi also said they recovered only sh77m, which was part of the stolen money.

The suspects have since been detained at Jinja Central Police Station.
