The Police in Rukiga district are investigating the circumstances under which a 27-year-old man was murdered after he picked up a quarrel in a bar on Sunday, July 31, 2022, over a woman.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, identified the deceased as Anthony Niwasasira of Nyakabungo Cell, Nyakasiru Parish Bukinda sub-county in Rukiga.
“It’s alleged that he was last seen drinking from a certain bar on Sunday, July 31, 2022, in Nyakasiru trading centre during the day, and thereafter he picked a quarrel with one Boaz who was also drinking from the same bar over a woman. Later the two were calmed down and they went on drinking after some time both left the bar and took different directions,” he said.
Maate explained that on Monday, August 1, 2022, at around 5:00pm Niwasasira was discovered lying in a trench by one Pamela, who called the Local Council 1 chairperson of the area, Gadi Byaruhanga.
“The chairman rushed to the scene and confirmed the incident. He then informed the area Police, which notified Rukiga Central Police Station and the homicide team responded. The scene was visited by the homicide team, processed, postmortem examination was done and no suspect has been arrested yet,” Maate said.
He added that inquiries were ongoing and a file of murder had been opened up in Rukiga under file number CRB 344/2022.
