The Police in Rukungiri have arrested a 53-year-old man over allegedly hacking his wife to death with a panga after she stopped him from selling family land to buy a motorcycle.
The suspect, Charles Musinguzi alias China, a resident of Matsya parish Nyakagyeme sub-county, Rukungiri district, allegedly killed Jennifer Kemigyisha, 48.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, said preliminary information indicated that the two had been embroiled in domestic wrangles over family land and that the victim had stopped the suspect from selling it so that he could buy a motorcycle.
“The man wanted to sell the land to buy a motorcycle, which the woman refused, saying that if he sells it, the family will remain with nowhere to cultivate,” he explained.
Maate revealed that on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at around 9:00 pm, the man allegedly committed the offence of killing his wife.
“Police was notified by the area chairperson, one Venancio Musasizi and the scene was visited and documented by District Criminal Investigation Directorate and team. The body was taken to Rwakabengo Health Center 3 for a postmortem examination,” he stated.
Maate said upon completion of inquiries, the suspect will be arraigned before the courts of law.
