CNN Kenyan journalist Larry Madowo has recounted how he survived a shooting in the US by an inch. According to him, he would have been a victim with his colleagues if hunger didn’t inform their choice of sitting spot at a Florida restaurant.

“We were at a restaurant on the Hollywood Oceanfront Broadwalk in Florida when a shooting happened down the street. I took this picture as we ate. We could have easily been part of US gun violence statistics if we weren’t so hungry & picked the 1st spot,” he tweeted.

Sharing a video of that shooting that made rounds online on Tuesday, May 30 2023, showing hordes of people scampering for safety, Madowo added: “This is the moment the shots rang out. We were here at this exact time, just further down and unaware of what was going on.”

According to CNN, of the nine people shot and injured, four are minors aged between one and 17 years and five are adults aged between 25 and 65.

Among those that reacted to Madowo’s tweet was the UNAIDS Executive Director, Winnie Byanyima who tweeted: “Oh dear Larry! Stay safe.”
