Singer Mesach Semakula has proposed the idea of meticulously capturing and preserving the rich heritage of the late stage performer, musician, and drama actor, Kato Lubwama, in a comprehensive book.

Initial reports indicate that Lubwama, a former Rubaga South MP, succumbed to heart complications early Wednesday morning, June 7, at Stana Medical Centre in Bunamwaya, Wakiso district.

Semakula, speaking at the vigil on June 7, hailed the departed artiste as an exceptionally versatile individual who had delved into various creative and artistic realms.

He believed that Lubwama’s extraordinary contributions to the art industry would be best conveyed through a literary work, providing a valuable resource for future scholars specialising in music, dance, and drama.

“He possessed remarkable talent as an actor, artiste, politician, and performer, leaving an indelible mark on the art industry. To truly grasp the breadth and depth of his accomplishments, it would be fitting to compile his legacy into a book, allowing scholars to glean wisdom from his remarkable journey,” Semakula expressed.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions, the Uganda National Cultural Centre (UNCC) will pay tribute to Lubwama on Monday, June 12, 2023.
