Following a move by Parliament, yesterday September 6, to block the forthcoming Nyege Nyege Festival on grounds of alleged immorality, social media and the country at large was abuzz with mixed reactions.
However, in a move to get the facts right and ably forge a way forward, the Office of the Prime Minister called for an emergency meeting with the various ministries and stakeholders, this morning at 8:30am.
After the meeting, therefore, New Vision CEO, Don Wanyama, took to his Twitter account to confirm the outcomes of the meeting.
Wanyamasaid: “Good news! #NyegeNyege will proceed as planned. Security will do what they have to do to ensure order,”
Earlier on, the State Minister of Ethics and Integrity – Rose Akello Lilly, had issued a draft of guidelines upon which the festival would be allowed to happen.
Among these included decent dressing without showing skin, under age revelers not to be allowed at the festival and not attending the festival naked.
From the meeting, it is reported that security will ensure these guidelines are upheld.
Vision Group is part of this year’s Nyege Nyege main sponsors, and commits to being part of an unlimited funfair.
