Operatives from the Directorate of Crime Intelligence and the Flying Squad together with the Territorial Police of Mukono have recovered a sub-machine gun and three live ammunition during an operation in Mukono.
The gun was recovered from the trunk of the motor vehicle registration number UAD 728Y which was found abandoned at Ham Mukasa-Nasuti junction.
“Upon searching the boot of the vehicle, our scene of crime officers found a sub machine gun loaded with three live ammunition that was wrapped in a yellow polythene sack,” the Kampala Metropolitan deputy spokesperson, Luke Oyowesigyire said in a statement.
Upon further searching, the team is also said to have found sharp machetes, a sharp steel knife, two pairs of scissors, two pairs of pliers and two screwdrivers, and other equipment used in the break-in.
Owoyesigyire said the teams also recovered various suspected stolen electronic items.
“The gun has been submitted to our forensic experts to establish whether it was the one used in the robbery of the recent attack on the supermarket in Mukono, where one person was injured,” he added.
He noted that several suspects have also been arrested and are being processed through the systems pending further other investigations.
This comes at a time when the police are hunting for the gun which was used in the attack and robbery of Spice Super Market.
While addressing journalists at the police’s weekly briefing at the police headquarters in Nagururu, Kampala, the polices spokesperson, Fred Enanga said so far two suspects have already been arrested in connection with aggravated robbery.
The suspects include were identified as William Mugalu 24, and Sam Mbogo 23, all residents of the Nasuti-Ntawo cell.
