The Police in Kisoro have arrested a man who allegedly returned home drunk and killed his three-year-old nephew in the wee hours of Friday, June 17.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, identified the suspect as Cosma Maniriho.
“The Police in Kisoro are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a three-year male juvenile. The deceased is Morris Iratuzi, son of Charity Nyiramahirwe, a resident of Kibande village, Muhindura Parish, Kanaba sub-county in Kisoro district. He was allegedly murdered by his uncle, a one Maniriho, 23 years, resident of the same address,” he said.
Maate said it’s alleged that on June 17, 2022, at around 4:00am, the suspect went back home from a drinking joint while drunk and proceeded to his mother’s bedroom and ordered her out.
“When Lydia Musabyimana failed to comply, the suspect beat her up, attempted to strangle her, but she got the chance of running away from the bedroom. That’s how the suspect then turned to her grandson and killed him. He also robbed his mother of sh60,000,” Maate explained.
He attributed the cause of the fatal incident to drunkenness.
Maate said the Police were notified, the scene was visited and documented, and the suspect was arrested.
The body was conveyed to Kanaba Health Centre III for a post-mortem examination.
A file CRB 366/2022 has been opened up in Kisoro Central Police Station.
