Veteran radio DJ and presenter Bush Baby has cautioned children and youth against misusing TikTok.

He said they should instead use the App to promote their talents instead of misusing it by promoting inappropriate content

The former East African radio presenter made the remarks while appearing on a local Television that was hosting a debate on the impact of new Apps like YouTube, Facebook and TikTok on the lifestyles of young people

“These apps have changed the business of content promotion because they have become a substitute for the traditional media. We have seen young artistes that have gotten music break through TikTok and Facebook. So I am not against them using these apps. My opinion is that they use these apps correctly,” he said.

TikTok is a short-form video hosting service owned by the Chinese company Byte Dance and it hosts user-submitted videos, which can range in duration from 3 seconds to 10 minutes.

TikTok is an entirely separate, internationalized version of Douyin, which was released in the Chinese market in September 2016.

It launched in 2017 for iOS and Android in most markets outside of mainland China.

However, it became available worldwide only after merging with another Chinese social media service, Musical.ly, on August 2, 2018.
