British born actor of Ugandan descent Daniel Kaluuya has bagged a nomination in this year’s Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards.
He is a nominee in the Best Actor category, where he will tussle it out with Michael B. Jordan, Amin Joseph, Brian Tyree Henry, Damson Idris, Donald Glover and Demetrius Flenory Jr.
In the Best Movie category is 2022 film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, where Ugandan born German actress Florence Kasumba acted as Ayo. The other films in the category are Creed 3, Emancipation, Nope, The Woman King, Till and Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever also has another nomination in the BET Her category because of Rihanna and Ludwig Goransson’s Lift Me Up. Also in the category are: Lizzo (About Damn Time), Pinkpantheress & Ice Spice (Boy’s A Liar Pt. 2), Beyonce (Break My Soul), Megan Thee Stallion (Her), Coi Leray (Players), and Lizzo (Special).
Born in Kampala in 1976, Kasumba moved to Germany in her formative years, where she studied and started her acting career in acting, dancing and singing. She resides in Berlin.
And born to Ugandan parents in London 33 years ago, Daniel Kaluuya has his relatives living in the city suburb of Makindye.
The BET Awards will take place on Sunday, June 25, 2023.
