Coca-Cola appoints Kirunda Public Affairs and Communications Director

Coca-Cola has appointed Kirunda as public affairs and communications director.  He replaces Simon Kaheru who was named Group Head of Public Policy and Partnership.

Magoola, an experienced marketing and communications professional with over 15 years’ experience within the consumer goods and utilities industries joins from British American Tobacco (BAT) in Rwanda and Uganda where he served as Managing Director.   

Kirunda was named Managing Director of British American Tobacco Uganda Limited by the Board of Directors on August 1, 2020.

He obtained substantial experience in managing budgets, personnel, and strategy for FMCG businesses in multinational corporations, public corporations, business membership groups, and donor-funded programs while serving in this capacity.

He is a senior international leadership and management professional with more than 20 years of technical and executive-level expertise and exposure in three nations.

Over the years, he has worked for Ultimate Security Limited, Kinyara Sugar Works, UMEME Limited, and BAT in various capacities.

He graduated from Bhopal University’s Barkatullah Vishwaviyalaya with a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting.

He is now studying at Makerere University Business School for a Master of Science in Accounting and Finance (MUBs).

Mathu Kiunjuri took over as  Managing Director and Executive Board Member at BAT on Thursday  May 12, 2022, replacing Kirunda.

According to Elly Karuhanga, the Board Chairperson, Magoola’s significant leadership and senior-level experience helped the Company navigate through a difficult macro-economic period caused by the COVID-19 pandemic on May 11, 2022.

“The Company’s resilience has allowed it to maintain its strategic plan to drive development and deliver long-term value to its shareholders.” Mr. Magoola departs BAT Uganda in a good position, well positioned to deliver on its vision of building A Better Tomorrow for its stakeholders,” he said
