Kenyan CNN reporter Larry Madowo announced his presence in Uganda with a rolex! He shared a photo biting into the delicacy wrapped in polythene with his eyes closed, a trench running between his legs next to the rolex stall, according to social media in Wandegeya.
His caption: “Uganda makes the best Rolex in the world.”
And the one detail that makes the Ugandan rolex distinct didn’t miss. “The only question is nyanya mbisi or not?”
This one move attracted the attention of a number of Ugandans, including those in tourism. The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) boss Lilly Ajarova reacted with a hashtag meant to promote domestic tourism, “More reason to #ExploreUganda.”
Media personality Canary Mugume shared a photo with Madowo at a restaurant, with rolex on their platter with the caption: “I am obsessed with the Ugandan rolex” attributed to Madowo.
In April, The New York Times did a story about the rolex titled “Rolex (an egg wrap, not a watch) is the breakfast to change your mornings.” It opened with, “A popular snack on the streets of Kampala, Uganda, the dish, a vegetable omelette rolled up in a chapatti, cheekily shares a name with the luxury brand.”
In May, the Swiss watch maker (Rolex) moved to register the brand in Uganda.
