Uganda’s reigning athlete of all time, Joshua Cheptegei and his wife Carol Yeko Kamari have welcomed the birth of a baby girl.
The newborn arrives months after the couple‘s official marriage which occurred on October 30, last year (2021), in Kween district.
Janaya Cheptegei, is baby number three for the celebrated lovebirds. Born in Kapchorwa General Hospital, Janaya is now their second daughter with the other being Jemimah Cheptegei, aged 3 and six months Their first-born, son Jethan Cheptegei is 5.
The couple are over the moon and thankful to God for the safe and normal delivery, and gifting them with another girl.

This indeed will give Cheptegei an extra push going into the upcoming prestigious global competitions; World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon in the USA and the Commonwealth Games in the English city of Birmingham, both slated for July.
Who is the Cheptegeis?
Joshua Cheptegei is a renowned Ugandan long-distance runner who gained much popularity through his wins, with his first major win being in 2019, after becoming the World Champion of the 10,000m Race.
In 2020, Cheptegei had two world records making him unique. He set new records in both the 5,000m and 10,000m races.
The new set records in the 5,000m race were a record of 12:35:36 in August 2020 and a 26:11:00 world record for the 10,000m race in October 2020.
In 2021, the former Busitema University student went on to win both Gold (5km) and Silver (10km) at the Olympic Games, hosted in the Japanese Capital Tokyo.
His soft-spoken wife Kamari is a successful professional civil engineer who operates her own company in Kapchorwa Municipality along Kapchorwa Suam road.
