The Rotary Club of Bukoto edged out defending champions Lugogo Mango Tree 3-2 in a scintillating final to win this year’s 5-A-Side soccer tournament that was held at the MTN Omondi Stadium on Saturday, July 23.
It was a culmination of games that started as early as 7:30am and went on till sunset, but at the end, it was the Rotary Club of Bukoto that was left standing.
“We had too many injuries, and at the end, we couldn’t sustain the effort it took,” Rotary Club Mango Tree captain and charter president Robert Nsereko said. “Being defending champions, we knew everyone would be gunning for us, and it is disheartening that we couldn’t defend the title. But we congratulate Bukoto, they played a good game.”

The Rotary 5-A-Side, last held in 2019 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, was organised by the Rotary Club of Kiwatule as a fundraiser for maternal, child and mental health.
The winner got sh5m for a maternal, child and mental health project they are working on, while the runners-up got sh4m. The third and fourth received sh3m and sh2m respectively, while quarter-finalists received sh1.5m.

Centenary Bank beat Letshego 6-1 to lift the corporates trophy, while Lake Victoria beat Kololo 4-1 and won the Rotaract trophy.
Bukoto had beaten Nansana 6-0 in the semi-finals, while Lugogo Mango Tree beat Acacia Sunset 2-0 to reach the final.
