The Nakawa Chief Magistrates’ Court has granted a cash bail of sh2m to Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) president Moses Muhangi.

On May 18, 2023, Muhangi was remanded to Luzira Prison by Nakawa Court Chief Magistrate Ritah Neumbe Kidasa.

Muhangi, 32 and former federation accountant Lydia Namuleme, 36, are battling the charges under sections 342, 347, 351, and 347, of the Penal Code Act.

Both offences attract a maximum sentence of three-years imprisonment, upon conviction. They have since denied the charges.

On Wednesday (May 31, 2023), Kidasa granted Muhangi bail after presenting three substantial sureties.

The magistrate ordered each of his three sureties to execute a non-cash bail of shillings four million.

The case was adjourned to July 20, 2023, for mention.

According to the charge sheet, Muhangi, a resident of Kololo in Kampala, describes himself as a businessman.

Prosecution alleges that Muhangi and Namuleme, between March and April 2022 at UBF head offices, Lugogo in Kampala district, forged a receipt, purporting that it was issued by a company for tents, whereas not.

According to prosecution, Muhangi presented a shilling 3.5 million receipt to the Public Accounts Committee whose authenticity was queried.
