Following his 12-hour detention and release on Saturday, October 8, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, singer and National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Bobi Wine, via a tweet at 1:00pm local time, announced that his earlier worry had come true; that the scheduled concert there had been cancelled.
According to him, the owner of the charity concert venue received instruction to cancel the gig.
“Unfortunately, our charity Cconcert in Dubai has been cancelled! The venue owner has been instructed to cancel. The information available shows Ugandan authorities have been working tooth and nail to ensure it doesn’t happen! The first attempt was to deny me entry, and now this!” Bobi tweeted.
In the tweet announcing his detention from 8:30pm on Friday to 9:30am on Saturday, he expressed worry about the concert, hoping they allowed it to proceed.
The goal of the concert, according to Bobi, was to assist Ugandan and African immigrant workers by raising awareness about their plight.
Bobi Wine, a former presidential candidate, last had a physical concert in Uganda in November 2018 at his One Love Beach, Busabala near Kampala that was well attended.
