National Unity Platform (NUP) party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine has scoffed at the artistes under the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), saying they are after free money.

“Why do you accept free money yet you can go and work for yourself? Art is talent. Ugandans loves art and support it, so I don’t see any reason why artistes eat free money! Now I see you have created a federation… hahah it’s still about getting money from the Government. I thank those who have always stuck to the truth,” he said.

On Friday, May 5, 2023, it emerged that a section of local artistes met and formed UNMF that will run under the stewardship of the Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja. Singer Eddy Kenzo is the president, along with vice-presidents Sheebah Karungi, Pallaso, and Juliana Kanyomozi.

Bobi implored artistes to start working instead of waiting for handouts from the Government.

He was addressing the youth and artistes at the new party offices in Kavulu, Kampala during a gathering dubbed National Youth Convention 2023 on Monday, May 22.

Among the artistes that attended were Roden Y Kabako and his Wife Jazira Dumuna, Aziz Zion, Maulana and Reign, Eddy Yawe and musician-cum-politician Geoffrey Lutaaya.

In his speech, Kabako said: ”I will not run after free money. I will work for the little I can get.”
