The first of its kind in Uganda, the Ateker Carnival is set to happen on Sunday, August 14, at Royal Gardens in Kireka, Wakiso district.
Ateker Carnival is a cultural event for the Ateker people who consist of Iteso, Karimojong, Kumam Nyangatom, and Turkana.
“We have had events strictly for Iteso and Karimojong, but this time around, we have decided to join all the cultures that fall in the Ateker category to come and have a blast as we create the unity among ourselves,” said Isaac Olupot, the CEO of Ateker Carnival.
The carnival will feature several showcases that include cultural attires, foods, traditional dances from different groups, and live performances from different artistes.

Traditional games will as well be part of the excitement and there will be wrestling between Karimojong women and Iteso men.
Under the theme Irai Oni ipiile, meaning we are one, the event is all about uniting and diversification of the cultures.
